Ben Shulman
Ben Shulman has demonstrated, since early in his career, that he has the strong
leadership, diverse technical, and proven managerial skills required to be a
consistently strong, multi-faceted contributor to corporate/organizational
success. He has quickly adapted to new industry sectors-healthcare, pharmaceuticals,
software, and higher/public education-acquiring the breadth of experience and proven
track record typical of a top-level executive.
He offers a unique background in larger organizations (Motorola, Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles Unified School District), the world of consulting, and early-stage high tech firms. He has broad functional experience and offers significant accomplishments in strategic planning, PMO, continuous process improvement, programs and projects, ERP, startups, infrastructure, risk management, business and enterprise architecture, SAP, business applications and continuity, change leadership and OD, vendor relations, and cost control.
Skilled in driving successful strategic and tactical initiatives, Mr. Shulman has a superior record of helping companies improve their operational efficiency and overall service/product quality. His ability to build and maintain loyal, productive teams has enabled myriad contributions that have added millions of dollars to the bottom line.
Recently, he has been providing strategic guidance on infrastructure/systems planning as well as technical oversight on major projects for the LA Unified School District. On one particular project he saved the district $6.5M in yearly cost savings while completing upgrades that have proven crucial to a successful organization-wide ERP project. Ben also played a key role in that major project's completion.
Earlier, as co-CIO with a local non-profit, he introduced formal structure and infrastructure to the IT function to significantly enhance its contribution to managing the organization's rapid growth (it doubled its membership to 200,000 in just two years).
Prior to serving as a technical advisor to Caltech's senior management on another ERP project, as well as on organization re-design, Ben served Kaiser Permanente's southern California region for nine years. As an Engagement/Project Manager, he played an integral part in a major technology upgrade, fostering a $4M annual cost saving across thirteen area hospitals.
Mr. Shulman's growth as a leader, technical strategist and problem solver began with two startups-Synfonics (an educational software firm) and Data Select Systems (a commercial software company catering to the financial services sector). With both companies, he not only demonstrated his strategic leadership and technical prowess, but his ability to connect with all functional departments to create the symmetry vital to long-term organizational success.
