His clients includes large urban school districts such as Los Angeles Unified School District; institutions of higher learning such as the Capella University, Chapman University, and Art Institute of California; adult education organizations such as The Success Institute and IMC USA's Academy for Professional Development; government organizations such as the U.S. Navy and the Government of Guam; and large and mid-cap companies in the high-tech, telecomm, biotech, chemical, defense, and financial services industries such as Applied Materials, DuPont, Dataskill, and Orange County's Credit Union.
Dr. McNaughton also serves on Western Association of Schools and Colleges' (WASC) accreditation teams for both K-12 and higher education.
He has held positions including Chief Operating Officer for two high-tech startups; eCommerce Manager for Dell Computer; and program manager / organizational change specialist for CSC Consulting. Prior to his business career he served as a Naval Officer and Aviator, and held numerous positions of high responsibility in training, administration, operations, flight standardization, and safety.
He has given presentations and training seminars on four different continents on topics that include change management, strategic and tactical planning, leadership and developing leaders, managing human resources, and management consulting. He has spoken to groups including the UCLA Anderson School of Management, Fielding Graduate University, American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys, New Mexico Association of Management Consultants, Project Management Institute, San Diego North County Personnel Association, and the Institute of Management Consultants USA.Dr. McNaughton has been quoted in numerous newspapers and magazines, including the Wall Street Journal, CBS MoneyWatch, Fast Company, Atlanta Business Chronicle, and the Christian Science Monitor, and written multiple articles on topics which include "The Role of Values and Leadership in Organizational Transformation" and "Driving Rigor through Relevance and Relationships." He has appeared on Time-Warner Cable Television, and has been a guest on many radio shows.
He currently serves as Chairman and CEO for the Institute of Management Consultants USA (IMC USA), the premier professional organization and sole certifying body for management consultants in the United States, and has earned their Certified Management Consultant (CMC®) designation, a mark of excellence in consulting recognized in 46 countries. He has also received the Navy Achievement Medal for meritorious service as a Navy Officer and Pilot.
He holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in Human and Organizational Systems from the Fielding Graduate University, and a B.S. in Physics from the U.S. Naval Academy. He is a faculty member at multiple universities where he teaches MBA and Ph.D. courses in organization development and change; leadership and leadership development; organization theory and design; human resources management; and strategy and implementation.
